It's a sad day for small business in Thunder Bay as the bricks fall at the former Great Northwest Coffee Company Inc. location.
The little coffee house was well known for it's support of Arts and Entertainment. Groups like the Kam Valley Fiddlers used the coffee house form practices. Kids of all ages were able to share and learn our countries folk music tradition. That place had character, character like only a small independent business could.
I am sure that both parties will continue, but Tim Horton's greed for a specific piece of land draws significant bad publicity for the franchise. Our community needs to support independent distinct treasures like this as they promote tourism with flavor!
City of Thunder Bay's planning department should really take a second look at the explosion of franchise outlets. Trying to look like a suburb of Toronto plagued by sterile franchise fast food seriously detracts from our identity of "The Wild North".
And where does their heart lie ? - Tim's is about to serve you frozen donuts
